Reddit is down - again.

Serious question - is there any major web site that crashes more than reddit?

I work for a pretty big site and if we go down for a just 1 hour per month our members are pretty upset. Most users expect close to 100% uptime. But reddit users seem to be content with much less than this. Yes, the site is very nice and I do enjoy it a lot - but let's be real, reddit goes down a lot. Dare I say at least once a day, if not multiple times a day.

With many sites revenue and server capacity scales with the user base. More users equals more money, more money equals more servers. Reddit has a an undoubtedly massive user base. Optimizations take place to deal with the growing user load. Reddit is open source, more hands should equal more solutions. On top of all this reddits parent company is a very large corporation.

Yet in spite of this reddit continues to experience regular catastrophic failure.

I'm sure the techs at reddit work hard to try and keep up, but they are without a doubt failing. How much more clear can it be than that your site crashes multiple times a day.
